A Book!
It can be rather difficult to wrangle a group of Supply Teachers- to have everyone in a single space at the same time is a challenge. With this in mind (and the added incentive of National Novel Writing Month) a book is in the works.... watch this space...

State schools
Central Queensland:
TAFE Campus Closures
Schools operated by the Archdiocese of Brisbane are not due to return until Wednesday 30/1/2013
Closures:
closed due the current weather event.
Parents with children at catholic or independent schools should check with the school as to any particular local arrangements.
Independent schools will communicate directly with parents where any special arrangements apply.
Parents with children attending early learning centres should contact their service regarding arrangements.
The safety of students, staff and the wider community are at the key to our decision making regarding school closures.
Apart from the state schools listed above, all other state schools will remain open at this stage.
Parents who need to send their children to schools in affected areas should exercise extreme caution and closely monitor road conditions.
Parents and staff should monitor morning radio reports about the status of schools in any flood-affected areas.
They are also advised to listen to updated weather forecasts and emergency services directives regarding the safety of road travel.
Concerned parents can also contact their local principal or education office for updated information about access to their children's school and classroom arrangements.
The decision to open or close individual schools is an ongoing process and is made with the safety of students, teachers and community members the highest priority.
These decisions will include many factors such as current and predicted weather conditions, river and flood levels as well as road and access conditions.

First Day of School
What should we do on that first day back at school? The chances of working are slim, and the chances of panicking about a lack of work are high.
I came up with my own solution. The names have been changed to protect the innocent, but here's a copy of the email I sent to the Deputy Principal of a school where I work regularly...
So my worst-case-scenario is to spend the day at a school I love with a group of kids on their very first day of school... not such a bad start to the year after all.

Hi Deputy,
If nobody loves me on the first day of school can I come hang out with your preps rather than mope at home? Happy to lend a hand wherever needed :-)

Welcome to 2013
Well, it's here. The 2013 teaching year has begun. Teachers are locked in halls around the state getting PD, and some of us Supply Teachers are already making the rounds of our favorite schools to remind them that we are available for work in 2013.
If you haven't taken the time to drop by your favorite schools, take a moment today to visit. And for anyone wondering if I'm free next week...
PICK ME... I"M FREE!

God save the Queen
Spare a thought for yoru Classroom Teacher colleagues who are hard at work on report cards over this long weekend. Sometimes I think that the only thing saving the sanity of those hard at work on report cards is a very well-timed long weekend.
I really love this picture. It's a good reminder that we all have to just get in and get things done sometimes. With report cards due I imagine there will be a few more "sick" days called in, and it's time for us Supply Teachers to muck in and take up the slack. Have a great week filled with work and do what you can to help out your colleagues who are bogged down in report carding.
